Why Kigali keeps winning African congress bids

Convention infrastructure, air access, safety and a two-hour drive to mountain gorillas — the case for Rwanda as a meetings destination.

Ten years ago Kigali was not on most association shortlists. Today it wins bids against far larger cities. Four reasons come up repeatedly in the debriefs. ## Purpose-built capacity The Kigali Convention Centre was designed for congresses rather than converted from something else, with plenary, breakout and exhibition space in one envelope and hotel inventory attached. ## Air access that actually works RwandAir's network plus the Gulf and European carriers means delegates from three continents arrive without an awkward overnight. ## Perceived safety For association boards signing off on a destination, Kigali's reputation for safety and cleanliness removes an entire category of objection. ## The extension sells itself - Volcanoes National Park is two hours from the plenary hall. - Nyungwe's canopy walk is a half-day extension. - Lake Kivu offers a decompression stay without a flight. > Our conversion rate from congress delegate to post-congress safari guest in Rwanda runs at roughly one in four — the highest in our portfolio.
