The destination

Why Kenya

Kenya is the destination most delegates picture when they hear the word safari, and it delivers: the Mara's big cats, the elephant herds of Amboseli with Kilimanjaro behind them, flamingos on the Rift Valley lakes. Nairobi's depth of inventory is its other advantage. Between the airport hotels, the city centre and the Karen and Gigiri suburbs, few African cities can host a large programme with as little friction — and the Giraffe Centre, the elephant orphanage and Karen Blixen's house make an afternoon out of a layover. For incentives we favour the private conservancies bordering the Mara: fewer vehicles, night drives and walking allowed, and exclusive-use camps for groups.
